The Project
Cowley Academy is a multi-building school campus in Donington, Lincolnshire, made up of approximately 12 buildings. The school needed a fire detection and alarm system it could rely on across the whole site, and RJ Wilson Fire & Security was appointed to deliver it.
The result was a complete new Honeywell SMS addressable fire alarm system providing Category L2 protection, installed from scratch with no existing cabling or equipment reused.
What We Delivered
- A brand new Honeywell SMS addressable fire detection and alarm system with Category L2 coverage
- More than 400 devices installed across approximately 12 buildings
- All new cabling and equipment, with nothing carried over from the previous installation
- Approximately 1,500 man-hours of installation work
- Full remote monitoring, supported by Nimbus service software
The Challenge
Upgrading the fire alarm across a site of this size is a significant undertaking in any setting. Doing it within a live school environment adds another layer of complexity. The work had to be carefully planned and coordinated so that the installation progressed efficiently while the school carried on operating around it.
Programme and Delivery
The installation was programmed over seven weeks. Thanks to careful planning and efficient site management, a fully working fire alarm system was in place within the first six weeks. This left the final week for completion, checking and handover, ensuring the system was thoroughly reviewed before being passed to the school.
Ongoing Support
Our relationship with Cowley Academy didn’t end at handover. RJ Wilson Fire & Security retained the ongoing maintenance of the system, giving the school a single point of contact for servicing and support.
Full remote monitoring and Nimbus service software provide additional peace of mind, offering clear visibility of faults, streamlined service management and continued system performance long after installation.
