The answer to this question primarily lies with the manufacture, features and picture quality, as in megapixel resolution of the cameras, that are required. Nowadays, traditional analogue CCTV just isn’t a sensible or viable option, whereas IP cameras that offer higher resolution video and better picture quality than CCTV cameras are the norm. They broadcast video as a digital stream of data over an IP network to a Network Video Recorder (NVR) rather than a DVR, which is the footage storage system for analogue CCTV.

Do I need to link my IP surveillance system to the internet?

Even though an internet connection is not required in order to use your IP security camera system, it can be a good idea to connect your cameras to the internet in order to get the most from them. Without an internet connection, you will only access your security surveillance cameras through your local area network (LAN).

Once set-up and secure, can the NVR on an IP camera system be hacked?

Once you’ve connected the IP cameras to the NVR (network video recorder), the cameras will record and save to the NVR directly, without accessing your home router network. This means that no one can hack into the private camera subnet.

If your premises are small, simple, single-storey or open-plan, then a commercial CCTV surveillance system with design and installation we would recommend would not always be unaffordable or elaborate. However, the more complex the premises and need, we will be clear with you at to what your options will be.

We have already mentioned that traditional analogue CCTV systems are no longer a sensible or viable option, so an IP camera system with its’ undeniable benefits does come at a cost, but there are options as we say, given the choice of manufacturer, features and picture quality.
